BALLET MÉCANIQUE
FERNAND LÉGER
•
15m
Fernand Léger's BALLET MÉCANIQUE occupies a preeminent place in modern art. There is no other film quite like it. One reason is the collective effort of the Americans who participated in its creation, including Ezra Pound, Alvin Langdon Colburn, Man Ray and especially co-director Dudley Murphy and composer George Antheil.
"The abstract film is an invigorating inquiry into the nature of cinema and visual perception in the guise of unfettered play. One of the first films to be acclaimed as avant-garde, BALLET MÉCANIQUE presents an exuberant, determinedly low-tech fantasia on the machine age-whirling pastry whisks, pumping pistons and all." - Susan Delson
